Keep Your ETH! The Launch of Pectra Testnet Might Propel Ethereum to New Heights
The second-largest crypto asset, Ethereum, has introduced its inaugural Pectra testnet. This upgrade follows the earlier Dencun news. This marks an important milestone for the blockchain and is expected to positively impact Ethereum’s pricing. Clearly, we are looking at another bullish trend for the crypto asset. Anticipation for a price rebound in the market is high.

What impact will Pectra have on Ethereum?
Pectra merges two substantial updates akin to the Dencun upgrade. The first news pertains to Prague (execution layer or EL) and Electra (consensus layer or CL). Consequently, it introduces numerous new Ethereum Improvement Proposals or EIPs. EIPs represent the official method through which modifications are proposed, deliberated, and instituted on the ETH blockchain.

On February 24th, at epoch 115968, the upgrade will be activated on Holesky. Following that, on March 5, at epoch 222464, it will be enabled on Sepolia.
Assuming everything proceeds smoothly, we will then select an epoch for mainnet deployment. Further information follows

Immediately following the Dencun upgrade, developers began discussing future developments. Two prominent topics included Account Abstraction (AA) and enhancements to validators and staking processes. EIP-7702 introduces AA, extending externally owned accounts (EOAs) to automated agreement addresses. EIPs 6110, 7002, and 7251 work to enhance user experience (UX) and eliminate delays between deposits in EL and CL.
One of the key EIPs was 7691, dubbed “Blob Throughput Increase.” This increase boosted Ethereum’s scalability by enhancing the number of data blobs per block. Moreover, this adjustment provides Layer 2 rollups with scaling solutions reliant on Ethereum’s data capabilities.

Ultimately, this will alleviate high fees and extended transaction finalization times. Additionally, the UX improvements will cater more effectively to retail investors. All these enhancements will streamline the use of the Ethereum distributed ledger and assist developers in creating more efficient applications. The primary aim is to bolster security while enhancing scalability without sacrificing decentralization.
Additionally, three distinct testnets are set to facilitate the preparation for Pectra’s significant upgrade.
Holesky, Sepolia, and Hoodi
Each testnet serves unique functions.
The Holesky testnet, introduced in September 2023, focuses on validating and earning yield providers. It operates as a testing ground for earning yield mechanisms and infrastructure advancement.
Conversely, Sepolia is aimed at providing superior tools and applications for developers. It creates an enriched environment for experimenting with decentralized applications (dApps). This testnet was launched on March 5, 2025.
Recently, on March 17, 2025, the Hoodi testnet made its debut. Hoodi essentially fulfills a role similar to Holesky, but with numerous upgrades, enhancing its functionality. It will assume the Holesky position with advanced features and serves as the final testnet before Pectra’s launch.
The new Hoodi testnet is now operational! This testnet aims to be a reliable protocol for earning yield operators and infrastructure developers to conduct their tests.

Both institutional and retail investors consider this to be the foundation for the next Ethereum pump. Not only Ethereum but also the crypto prices of many Layer 2 solutions and all projects built on the Ethereum blockchain are expected to benefit from this development.
What lies ahead?
Discussions are underway regarding subsequent steps. Some speculate the next upgrade may be named Osaka. This will prioritize Verkle Trees, state management, and preparations for complete Danksharding. This aligns with Vitalik’s overarching vision for a secure, decentralized, and scalable blockchain.
