What Are Ripple’s Plans With the UK? Company President Engages with UK Economic Secretary to the Treasury

Nov 12, 2025

On 12 November 2025, Ripple President Monica Long had a meeting with the UK’s Economic Secretary to the Treasury, Lucy Rigby, to explore how digital assets could enhance the nation’s competitiveness and economic development. This discussion has generated curiosity regarding Ripple’s future actions in the UK and the UK’s aspirations concerning digital assets and distributed record technology. Long expressed on X that the UK is “building on its status as one of the leading financial hubs of the world.”

The crypto community takes note of Rigby’s involvement in financial crypto law, particularly as she interacts with Ripple directly. Simultaneously, Ripple executive Cassie Craddock has recently disclosed the company’s plans to leverage the recent regulatory collaborations between the US and the UK.

With a photograph posted on X, Rigby stated, “Engaging discussion with Ripple’s Monica Long here in Singapore about promoting innovation in digital assets and our new dedicated initiative for global fintech growth in the UK.”

After achieving victories against the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Ripple has submitted an application to register as a digital currency firm with the UK’s Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).

Rigby also held a meeting with Kraken Co-CEO Arjun Sethi, who openly criticized the UK’s approach to crypto crypto law.

“UK users are excluded from nearly 75% of crypto products, such as Decentralized finance locking tokens and lending,” remarked Kraken Co-CEO

“In the UK currently, if you access any crypto protocol, including Kraken’s, you receive a warning akin to a cigarette package—‘use this and you’re going to face serious issues,’” stated Kraken Co-CEO Arjun Sethi. “The rapid pace required for transactions negatively impacts consumers. While disclosures are vital, having to navigate through 14 steps is counterproductive.”

Additionally, he lambasted the stringent crypto regulations in the UK for obstructing capital movement and diminishing user experience.

Sethi also mentioned that Kraken will not pursue tokenized shares of private enterprises as Robinhood did, denouncing its tokenized OpenAI shares as “a poor concept.”

The crypto community on X voiced their base level for Sethi.

“UK regulations are definitely stifling development. It’s as though they are forcing innovation out the backdoor. And tokenized shares? Total hype without genuine utility,” commented @DrigaDenis.

Significantly, the task force will harmonize the approaches of both countries regarding digital currency oversight.

The task force was initiated during Trump’s visit, stemming from high-level discussions between UK Chancellor Rachel Reeves and US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.

On 22 September 2025, the US Department of the Treasury (DoT) issued a statement indicating, “The goal of the Taskforce is to investigate options for short-to-medium term collaboration on digital assets while legislation and regulatory frameworks are still evolving, alongside long-term strategic alliance and further opportunities for innovation in wholesale digital markets.”

According to the US DoT, “the Transatlantic Taskforce for Markets of the Future is expected to report within 180 days.”
