Bold Daylight Kidnapping Attempt: A Disturbing Increase in Crypto-Related Violence
The family of three targeted in broad daylight in Paris is associated with the CEO and co-founder of Paymium, a French cryptocurrency trading protocol.
Among the trio, the woman in the footage is the CEO’s daughter, while the child is his granddaughter. The woman’s partner, who attempted to intervene, faced a severe beating as a result.
According to the video evidence, three masked men exited a van and attempted to force the woman and her child into the vehicle, as reported by various sources. They violently assaulted her partner who sought to help.

The woman fought back, grasping one of the assailants’ firearms and tossing it away, as the victims’ screams drew the attention of bystanders.
As the aggressors retreated due to the outcry and chaos caused by the attack, numerous witnesses began to assist the victims.
One bystander is seen picking up a sizable red canister and throwing it at the attackers as they flee into the back of the van. Law enforcement reported that the van was later discovered abandoned not far from the attack site.

The recent incident follows another high-profile crypto-related kidnapping in January involving French crypto leader David Balland and his companion. Balland, a co-founder of the Ledger crypto company, endured a horrific experience where he had a finger amputated by his captors.
Authorities indicated that the kidnappers demanded a large ransom in crypto asset, but no additional information was given regarding the amount or if any payment was made.
Balland was rescued during a substantial operation conducted by France’s elite GIGN tactical unit. His partner was also located and freed after being bound in a vehicle at a different location from Balland.
Since the January incident, at least nine individuals have been taken into custody, including the suspected ringleader behind the entire scheme. Following his rescue, Balland required hospitalization due to significant hand injuries, which later were revealed to include the loss of a finger.
These two prominent kidnapping events in 2025 occur amidst France’s alarming rise in organized crime. Last May, armed individuals in balaclavas orchestrated the escape of a drug lord during a routine transfer.
