“Ethereum Misapplication” Results In Issues For Developer, Arrested In Turkey

Aug 11, 2025

In the newest Ethereum developments, a developer has been apprehended in the Turkish city of Izmir on allegations of “Ethereum misuse.”

The developer, who goes by the alias “Fede’s Intern,” posted a series of messages on X on August 10, 2025, revealing that local authorities had informed his lawyer about potential charges he might face.

Nonetheless, Fede’s intern firmly rejected any accusations against him, asserting, “It’s obviously incorrect, we are merely infrastructure builders.”

He further explained that his lawyer advised him to restrain his online statements and shares. In the meantime, he urged his followers to connect with reliable contacts who could advocate for him.

The developer described himself as a periodic entrepreneur, managing businesses across more than a dozen industries. According to Fede’s Intern’s post on X, he operates from Europe and collaborates on projects with governmental organizations.

“If we’re the antagonists here, I truly don’t know what to say. Everything we engage in is transparent,” he expressed.

He mentioned that he has reached out to influential contacts in multiple countries, including the US, UAE, Europe, and parts of Asia, emphasizing that his associates in different jurisdictions were also contacting Turkish authorities on his behalf.

In response to the allegation that he enabled the improper use of Ethereum, Fede’s Intern has expressed his readiness to cooperate with Turkish or any other authorities.

He added that his legal team is addressing the situation and hinted that he might soon leave for Europe via a private jet.

Ethereum News: The Allegations Regarding Ethereum Misuse Remain Ambiguous

At this point, the term misuse of ETH is still not defined, inciting speculation in the crypto community regarding the nature of the accusation.

Some users on X insinuated that the confusion might arise from translation inaccuracies or misunderstandings of Ethereum’s technical structures. Others, however, perceive this situation as a signal of increased regulatory pressure in the area.

Amid all of this, several crucial questions linger unanswered, including whether the charges against Fede’s Intern are personal or directed at an affiliated entity.

Is his arrest part of a larger crackdown recently announced by Turkey’s interior ministry? Most crucially, what precisely is classified as ETH misuse?

Fede’s Intern has committed to sharing more details on the situation once he departs Turkey and receives legal authorization to speak.

Fede’s Intern Hesitated to Announce His Detention, Worrying About Online Doubt

While Fede’s Intern intends to leave Turkey and pursue legal remedy before addressing this matter further, in his posts, he shared a series of unforeseen experiences during his time in custody, and that he had initially refrained from going public.

Fede’s Intern clarified that he delayed going public because he anticipated online skepticism, and partly because he was awaiting authorization from his lawyer to speak online.

“I don’t know what I gain by fabricating that this occurred to me,” he mentioned.

The developer’s detention has drawn parallels to the arrest of Binance executive Tigran Gambaryan, who was detained in Nigeria along with Nadeem Anjarwalla.

Both incidents have intensified scrutiny over whether authorities are overreaching in their treatment of distributed database infrastructure professionals.
