Is Helium Crypto Done: Drone-Based Decentralized Telecommunications Might End the DEPIN Initiative

Aug 11, 2025

A fresh partnership between World Mobile and the Indonesian telecommunications behemoth Protelindo is elevating 5G technology, and it appears this could be a formidable contender against Helium in a significant DEPIN disruption.

Dubbed World Mobile Stratospheric, the initiative intends to employ hydrogen-fueled drones to provide blockchain-enabled telecom services to isolated areas. From heights of 60,000 feet, each drone is capable of covering an area of 15,000 square kilometers using 450 focused beams.

“We can offer service at costs that are up to 18 times lower per gigabyte than satellites, with a total latency of just 6ms,” – Charles Barnett, Chief Business Officer, World Mobile Group

By integrating its aerial protocol with an established decentralized physical infrastructure (DePIN) of ground nodes, World Mobile aims to eliminate connectivity gaps with cost-effective wireless solutions. So, is this the end for HNT?

Is Helium Crypto Finished? The Next Big Thing in DePIN

With a wingspan of 56 meters, the hydrogen-powered drones from World Mobile Stratospheric are designed to remain airborne for nine days between refueling stops.

The operational altitudes provide stable air and consistent conditions, but the engineering challenges are considerable.

The skyward communication trading market is forecasted to reach $159 billion by 2030, and World Mobile is poised to secure a segment of the existing $98.3 billion trading market. However, the rivalry is intense.

Elon Musk’s Starlink currently leads the satellite internet race for remote locales, while Helium Mobile presents a decentralized wireless solution through a combination of community-operated nodes and alliances with providers like AT&T.

World Mobile representatives assert that their model is more apt for high-density mobile user environments, unlike Starlink, which necessitates specialized hardware for outlying installations.

Meanwhile, Helium’s recent surge has stalled, with prices struggling to maintain crucial price floor levels.

  • Support: $3.06–$3.07 (200 SMA) is a vital short-term floor. Falling below that, $3.02 becomes significant.
  • Resistance: $3.12 forms a near-term ceiling; stronger selling pressure is anticipated near $3.15.
  • Trend: A Golden Cross has appeared on the 20 SMA versus 200 SMA, but the momentum is waning.
  • Pattern Risk: A head-and-shoulders formation might occur if $3.06 breaches on volume.

Helium Crypto has stepped back from the DePIN landscape for a few years, and initiatives like World Mobile Stratospheric are set to overshadow it during this cycle. We’ll monitor if WMTX can outperform in Q4.
