Metaplanet Increases Holdings by 780 BTC, Exceeds 17000 BTC Threshold

Jul 28, 2025

Metaplanet, the most proactive Corporate Bitcoin holder in Asia, has increased its Bitcoin (Bitcoin) reserves. The company reported its acquisition on 28 July 2025, revealing the purchase of an additional 780 BTCs, which elevates its total to 17,132.

Since the launch of its Bitcoin Treasury Operations in December 2024, Metaplanet has been diligently acquiring BTCs funded by its capital trading market endeavors and operating profits. Notably, just a month ago, the company held 13,350 BTCs, compared to over 17,000 today. Remarkably, in the last three months, the amount of Bitcoin the company owns has surged by 13,000.

As per the company’s latest filing on Monday, it acquired each BTC at an average price of ¥17.52 million (around $119,136), totaling its investment for this round to ¥13.67 billion (approximately $92.93 million).

This recent acquisition comes on the heels of a significant rise in Metaplanet’s trading activity on the Tokyo Stock Trading platform (TSE), where its trading volume expanded from ¥997.6 billion (around $6.78 billion) to ¥1.86 trillion in June (about $12.65 billion) according to TSE’s data.

This rise in Metaplanet’s trading volume indicates a surge in crypto holder interest, coinciding with the company’s ongoing commitment to its digital asset strategy as a facet of its broader Bitcoin Treasury initiative.

Metaplanet’s growth has been driven by consecutive share issuances and bond redemptions. The company redeemed ¥12.75 billion (roughly $86.7 million) from its 19th bond series on 4 and 14 July 2025, utilizing proceeds from exercised stock acquisition rights.

This led to a rapid dilution of shares. From 30 June to 28 July 2025, a number of new shares were issued across three programs, resulting in a fully diluted share total of nearly 866 million.

Between 1 and 28 July, Metaplanet recorded a Bitcoin Yield of 22.5% amounting to ¥52.5 billion ($357 million). Prior quarters had shown superior gains with 129.4% in Q2 2025 and 309.8% in Q4 2024.

The average expenditure per Bitcoin has now reached ¥14.78 million ($100,504), an increase from ¥12.94 million ($87,992) at the end of March 2025, reflecting a heightened interest in the asset.

Holding Metaplanet Stock Does Not Equate to Direct Bitcoin Ownership

Metaplanet notes that these metrics do not substitute for traditional financial measures like cash flow or net income, but assert that they illuminate the company’s BTC per share strategy that could be beneficial for long-term investors.

Furthermore, Metaplanet has yet to distribute any dividends, reiterating to investors that owning its stock does not mean direct ownership of its BTC assets.

The company also cautions that its proprietary KPIs leave out factors such as debt and preferred shares and could exaggerate performance if considered outside the broader financial picture.
