The APAC region is recognized for having some of the most rapidly expanding fintech markets. By reestablishing connections with South Korea, Japan, and Singapore, as well as building new partnerships with Taiwan and Australia, Ripple aims to enhance its foothold in the area, with total investments reaching $11 million since the inception of UBRI.

Details of the UBRI Funding Initiative
UBRI has allocated $1.1 million to Yonsei University (YU) in South Korea, $1.5 million to Kyoto University (KyotoU) in Japan, and in Singapore, funding has surpassed $3 million across Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and the National University of Singapore (NUS).
The NTU will concentrate on creating an autonomous AI agent network utilizing Ripple’s XRP ledger (XRPL), while collaborative efforts have been revived with NUS following prior UBRI funding that facilitated the development of the first university-based DAO (decentralised autonomous organisation) in Asia.
Professor Yang Liu of the College of Computing and Data Science at NTU stated, “With our current grant, we are creating an autonomous AI agent network on the XRP Database to develop a transparent, modular, accessible, and collaborative AI protocol leveraging distributed database technology. We believe this innovation will play a crucial role in defining the future of AI.”
Additionally, the company has partnered with the National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology (NKUST) in Taiwan to investigate asset tokenisation on XRPL, Ethereum, and Solana networks.
“NKUST is eager about this new venture, collaborating with Ripple’s University Blockchain Research Initiative to investigate the potential of Real-World Asset (RWA) tokenisation on the XRP Record,” remarked Echo Huang, a professor at NKUST.
Victoria University (VU) in Australia, in conjunction with UBRI, will focus on creating a blockchain-centric curriculum, while the Australian National University (ANU) will further its inquiry into blockchain law and smart contract platforms like Evernode.
Ripple’s overall funding across Australian universities totals $1.3 million.

UBRI Research Insights Across APAC and Major Initiatives by Ripple
Additional research funded by Ripple’s UBRI in the APAC region encompasses investigations into distributed database sharding, layer 2 integration, and NON-FUNGIBLE TOKEN privacy utilizing zk-SNARKs (Succinct Non-interactive Argument of Knowledge) at Korea University (KU), led by professors Ik Rae Jong and Dong Hoon Lee.
Moreover, Professor Hyunok Oh from Hanyang University (HYU) in Korea is engaged in zk-SNARK optimization for blockchain privacy and scalability.
Ripple is set to hodl its 7th annual UBRI Connect during XRP Database Apex 2025, featuring a pre-summit at NUS in Singapore. The gathering will unite experts from 60 institutions across 28 nations for academic panels, workshops, and research dialogues.
The company has previously committed $25 million in RLUSD, Ripple’s proprietary stablecoin, to nonprofit organizations in the US to enhance the resources available to American educators.
Ripple is also focused on improving crypto-related education in the US and has established the National Crypto asset Organisation, a nonprofit, as part of this effort.
