In March of this year, Stone submitted lobbying disclosures revealing he was engaged in February to persuade lawmakers to eliminate US tax provisions that form the basis of the Department of Justice’s indictment against Ver.

Trump Associate Roger Stone Engaged to Assist Ver in Evading Prison Time for Tax Fraud
Stone is focusing on the “exit tax” legislation that pertains to Americans who renounce their citizenship. This is the reason behind Ver’s legal troubles concerning the $48 million in taxes that the DOJ asserts Ver owes.
Last April, the DOJ accused Ver of various offenses, including mail fraud, tax evasion, and filing false tax returns. The agency claims Ver provided inaccurate information about his digital currency holdings while preparing to leave the US in 2014.
The allegations further assert that Ver neglected to report capital gains after liquidating approximately $240 million in BTC in 2017. Ver was apprehended in Spain and subsequently released on €150,000 bail in May.
This release was conditional, requiring Ver to surrender his passport and check in regularly with Spanish authorities while contesting extradition to the US.
Ver, who is also known as ‘Crypto Jesus,’ is pursuing legal avenues amid a favorable shift toward crypto since the Trump administration returned to power earlier this year.
In January, Ver shared a video about his legal challenges, alleging it to be the “weaponization of justice” under the then Biden administration.
Appealing to the incoming President Trump, Ver expressed; “If anyone understands being a target of lawfare for promoting American values, it’s Donald Trump.”

Ver Submitting Motion to Dismiss Case – Aspires for Similar Result as Ross Ulbricht
Ver’s legal representatives have submitted a motion to dismiss the case, contending that the tax statutes cited in the indictment are “ambiguous, outdated, and fail to offer clear guidance for early cryptocurrency adopters.”
“This prosecution needs to be terminated,” his lawyers emphasized, accusing the DOJ of utilizing selective evidence and distorting private communications. As for Roger Stone’s involvement, he maintains that he hasn’t actively lobbied Trump for a pardon.
“I have not lobbied any officials in the executive branch, including the president,” he stated to The New York Times, clarifying that his role is to price floor Ver’s legal team in an advisory capacity, behind the scenes.
Contrary to his ‘behind the scenes’ stance, Stone’s website has recently released an article entitled “Why Roger Ver Should Be Granted a Presidential Pardon.”
Stone is an exceptionally controversial individual and himself received presidential clemency in 2019.
The extensive list included charges of lying to Congress, witness tampering, and obstructing the House Intelligence Committee’s investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 elections.
He received a 40-month prison sentence. Nevertheless, Stone never completed any time as Trump commuted his sentence in 2020 and later issued a full pardon.
