Tether Advocates For USDT Acceptance In Asia Via Messaging Application LINE
Tether, the creator of USDT stablecoins, and LINE, a widely-used messaging application recognized for its comprehensive features, have formed a partnership aimed at enhancing Tether’s footprint in the Asian trading market.
This strategic alliance, revealed on 7 May 2025, will allow LINE users to perform transactions with USDT directly within the app. USDT will now be integrated into LINE’s messenger-centric Mini DApp ecosystem and self-custody digital wallet, enabling users to interact with stablecoins through an interface they frequently use.
For context, LINE enjoys immense popularity in nations like Japan, Thailand, Taiwan, and Indonesia, where it is heavily utilized for messaging, payment processing, hotel reservations, and dining bookings. The app boasts around 196 million monthly active users.
This integration will empower LINE app users to carry out in-app payments and smoothly facilitate cross-border transactions using USDT.

Importantly, LINE NEXT, the Web3 division of the company, will implement the USDT stablecoin on its proprietary distributed record, Kaia.
Tether’s CEO Paolo Ardoino remarked, “Thanks to LINE NEXT’s distributed record capabilities, over 200 million LINE users will now have easy access to digital assets in their daily activities.”
He further stated, “Tether’s move to Kaia highlights its dedication to promoting stablecoin acceptance across Asia and beyond.”

Initial Features of USDT-LINE and Future Strategies
Additionally, Tether disclosed that the initial services would comprise peer-to-peer USDT transfers via LINE’s in-app digital wallet and mission-driven USDT rewards, with further functionalities planned for various app layers.
Sam Seo, Chair of the Kaia DLT Foundation, indicated that this strategic alliance aims to deliver “the most rapid, simple, and reliable” USDT experience to LINE users, DeFi applications, and centralized exchanges.
Asia has long embraced messaging applications integrated with financial services. For instance, China’s WeChat has offered a blend of shopping, messaging, and payment functionalities for years. As Web3 companies seek to tap into this market, LINE’s size and existing payment infrastructure position it as an optimal network for stablecoin integration.
“The adoption of USDT by LINE NEXT will establish a dollar-centric gateway in Asia,” commented LINE NEXT CEO Youngsu Ko.

Recent Achievements by Tether
Despite facing challenges in the EU, Tether has enjoyed a series of successes recently. On 23 April 2025, the organization formed a strategic alliance with Japan’s SoftBank and Cantor Fitzgerald, a prominent Wall Street entity, to invest 1.6 billion in BTC in the new crypto initiative, Twenty One Capital. This combined entity holds a valuation of $3.6 billion, with Tether and Bitfinex (a crypto asset trading platform) as majority stakeholders.
Moreover, with Twenty One Capital starting with 42,000 bitcoins, it will soon become the world’s third-largest BTC treasury. For Tether, this translates to an enhancement of its trading market position, credibility through associations with major financial institutions, and stability as it diversifies its assets beyond stablecoins.

To bolster regulatory crypto law, Tether has partnered with Chainalysis. This collaboration will assist Tether in monitoring secondary crypto market activities and ensuring crypto law across its tokenization platform, Hadron.
